Boston Worker Accused Of Selling Heroin Out Of His DPW Truck
BOSTON (CBS) – A Boston Department of Public Works employee faces charges for allegedly selling drugs out of his DPW truck.
Kenneth Clark, 49, of Roxbury was arraigned Monday morning in Dorchester District Court Monday. He is accused of selling heroin.
Police had Clark under surveillance for a week when one morning last week he allegedly sold a bag of heroin to a woman in Mattapan Square.
Prosecutors said that during the surveillance Friday morning, police saw Clark stop at the intersection of River Street and Edgewater Drive in Mattapan where he was approached by a woman and walked away with her.
According to prosecutors, after Clark and the woman parted ways at a nearby intersection, police approached the woman. Police said she told them she had bought heroin from a city employee and showed them a small amount of heroin apparently tied in the finger of a blue plastic glove.
Prosecutors said police arrested Clark and during a search found $1,160 in cash and blue gloves similar to the one containing the heroin.
Clark was suspended without pay after his arrest Friday. In addition to the criminal charges, he faces a disciplinary hearing and could lose his job.
Mayor Marty Walsh called Clark's conduct unacceptable.
At Clark's arraignment, his lawyer, Courtney Linehan, said there were no drugs on Clark or in the DPW truck. Linehan said Clark had the money with him to pay bills on the first of the month.
Prosecutors said Clark has a history of violence and drugs and was arraigned in dozens of cases.
But Clark's lawyer said he has "six not guilties on his record" and his most recent conviction was more than 10 years ago.
The judge set bail at $15,000. Clark is scheduled to return to court Sept. 3.
