WBZ-TV Weather Alert: Potential For Afternoon Thunderstorms
BOSTON (CBS) - The WBZ-TV Storm Watch Weather Alert is in effect with the potential for a few nasty storms later Tuesday.
The stage is set for the appearance of a few scattered afternoon to early evening thunderstorms.
A cold front will be shifting southeastward from the St. Lawrence River Valley. An upper level impulse will interact with the frontal boundary and enhance the risk for the storms. They will be brief, lasting less than 25 minutes and, as per usual, be hit-and-miss from place-to-place.
Some of these storms COULD be strong, containing gusty, possibly damaging, winds, downpours, dangerous lightning and hail.
Presently, the Storm Prediction Center has placed southern New England in the area of a slight risk for severe weather for the afternoon to early evening.
We will monitor the situation throughout the day and provide updates if conditions warrant and, of course, go on-air immediately with any severe weather watches or warnings that are issued by the National Weather Service.
Current projections depict these storms to be firing primarily form mid-to-late afternoon in the Boston area to early evening across extreme southern Connecticut, Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.
This cold front and any attendant storms will terminate the hot weather of the last couple of days leading to much more refreshing air later tonight through Thursday night.
High temperatures will be back to just under 70 at the coast ranging up to near 80 farther inland and overnight conditions will be comfortable for sleeping again.
With today's projected 93 in Boston, it will complete the criteria for another heat wave giving us a total of 6 days at 90 or higher already so far this season.
The city's seasonal total average is 15.
This does not necessarily mean that the 2017 seasonal total will be way above average matching last year's whopping amount of 22 days.
No more 90 days are probable for the next week or so.
