Boston Uber Driver Charged With Indecently Assaulting Passenger
BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston Police have charged a driver for ride-sharing service Uber with indecently assaulting a passenger on Sunday morning.
Abderrahim Dakiri, a 36-year-old Uber Driver from Boston, was arrested and charged with indecent assault and battery.
Police said the victim is a 30-year-old Boston woman who said she and three friends called for an Uber ride at the end of the night. The four women were picked up by an Uber driver after getting their photo receipt, police said.
The victim told police that she was the last one in the car with the driver after her friends were dropped off. While they were alone, the Uber driver indecently touched her several times, police said.
The woman got out of the Uber car in the North End and was helped by someone who called police at 3:25 a.m.. Boston police said they arrested Dakiri at an East Boston police station without incident.
An UBER spokeswoman said that Dakiri passed two background checks, one in September 2014 and another on January 13, 2015.
"Our thoughts are with the victim of this terrible incident. We have been in close contact with the BPD since the allegations were reported and have been proactively providing information to them that has helped with their investigation. The driver in question has been removed from the platform pending the ongoing investigation," UBER said in a statement.
In December, a 46-year-old Uber driver was charged with raping a woman he picked up in Boston.
