Boston, Taunton To Split $44M From HUD
BOSTON (CBS) -- The biggest landlords in Boston and Taunton are getting big money from the federal government.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development delivered $44 million in aid to those two cities.
Regional Administrator Barbara Fields said the money will be used to transform decades-old "barracks-style" housing into some-thing that's modern and energy-efficient.

It's a rare accomplishment for a town of less than 60,000 people to receive such a large sum, and Taunton is proud of that accomplishment.
For Alan Pelletier, chairman of the board of Taunton's housing commission, the $22 million grant money hits home. He said he grew up the very housing project that will now be torn down and built anew.
Construction is planned to be done in 2013.
