Boston Student Arrested After Bringing Paintball Gun To School
BOSTON (CBS) – A Boston student was arrested on Friday for bringing a replica gun to school.
Police were called just before 8 a.m. for a report of a person with a gun at a school on Hancock Street.
Staff members told police that multiple students had seen one of their classmates with a gun in the bathroom.
Officers recovered what appeared to be a black handgun from a toilet tank in the bathroom.
But after inspecting the gun, police determined it was a .177 caliber paintball gun that did not have the federally required orange tip that identifies it as a replica.
After speaking with witnesses, police arrested a juvenile male and charged him with possession of a firearm on school grounds, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, and intimidation of a witness.
"Officers hate to arrest any juvenile, but hopefully he and his family can use this as a learning experience," said Police Commissioner William Evans. "I know that this particular kid has already expressed remorse for his actions, and my officers are willing to work with him to provide the resources that he may need."
