'A loving friend,' Father killed in South End shooting
BOSTON – Police are looking for a suspect after a father was shot and killed in Boston's South End neighborhood. It happened around 10 p.m. Saturday on West Dedham Street.
The victim was identified by his family as 28-year-old Dion Ruiz.
"It's very heartbreaking for me to lose a child," said his mother Wanda Miller. "His smile. His smile and his laugh. And the hugs and kisses that he always gave me when he was around."
His sister said she is grief-stricken and puzzled because her younger brother deeply cared for others.
"Dion was known through the community as a loving man, a loving friend. If you ask anyone around here," she said. "He cared a lot about everyone, he did anything he could to help people."
"I feel like it's very important for you to if you have problems with your siblings, if you have problems with your family just make amends with them because you never know if something like this is going to happen," Ruiz's sister continued.
Ruiz leaves behind an eight-year-old daughter.
There was a still large police presence in the South End as family and community members held a vigil.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Boston Police.
