Overnight Shootings Leave 1 Dead, 3 Hurt In Boston
BOSTON (CBS ) – Shootings in Mattapan and Dorchester left one person dead and three injured late Friday night.
Boston police said two people were shot near 62 Astoria St. in Mattapan at about 11:05 p.m. A man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene, another man was struck by bullets as he tried to flee, according to neighbors.
Resident Dwayne Hinds says fortunately no one was inside at the time.
"It went right through the window and hit the wall. I don't know what to think anymore it's just crazy," Hinds said.
It happened outside a home where a soccer party was underway, but neighbors say they don't know the victims and the violence came to their street.
"These are young folks, whether it's a rivalry or whatever is going on with them, it shouldn't happen," said Pam Smith.
The shooting is still under investigation, and police called in a bus to transport dozens of witnesses for questioning.
About an hour later in Dorchester, one person was left with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot at Norfolk and Elizabeth streets.
And shortly after that, a third shooting occurred at Ellington and Greenland streets. The person shot there was expected to survive.
No arrests have been announced for any of the shootings as of Sunday morning. It's unclear if they were related.
"June, July and August, the summer months are our most violent," said Boston police commissioner Bill Evans, who was participating in Father's Day march for unity Sunday. "That's why we all have to buckle down and work together and stop this senseless violence."
