Boston Radio Stations, WBZ-TV Will Go Silent Monday To Mark Marathon Bombings
BOSTON (CBS/AP) — Boston radio stations are planning to go silent for one minute next Monday to honor the victims and heroes of the Boston Marathon bombing.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030 and WBZ-TV are proud to be a part of the moment of silence that has been organized by the local radio stations and the national Association of Broadcasters.
The National Association of Broadcasters says stations owned by CBS Radio, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, Entercom and Greater Media will participate in the tribute.
It is planned for 2:50 p.m., exactly one week from when the two bombs exploded near the finish line of the marathon, killing three people and wounding more than 170.
Association President Gordon Smith says the stations served as first informers after the blast and want to salute the first responders and others who "do so much during emergency situations."
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who were impacted by the horrific act that took place in Boston," said Gordon Smith, president and CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters.
"This moment of silence will serve as a time of reflection, honoring those lost and injured in this tragic event, and recognizing the countless acts of heroism and kindness that we saw on Monday and which continue today. As first informers in times of crisis, broadcasters want to take this opportunity to salute the first responders and the many unsung heroes who do so much during emergency situations."
