Boston Police Treat Kids To Ice Cream Day After Gunfire Erupts Near Public Pool
BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston police are trying to assure Roxbury residents that the area around Malcolm X Park is safe after gunfire erupted Monday afternoon near a community pool where children were swimming.
Police Commissioner William Evans handed out ice cream cups to kids outside the Melnea Cass Recreational Complex on Tuesday.
He told reporters that police are doing everything in their power to keep the area safe after 10 gunshots were fired outside the complex Monday.
"There's no guarantee, but I can tell you we have plenty of police officers out there," Evans said. "We have them in areas where we have seen the violence, but they can't be afraid."
More officers will be seen around pools and parks, Evans said.
"I just wish people will come back," he said. "We can't let that one incident upset people's way of life."
