Boston Police Officer Humbled By Sox Celebration Photo
BOSTON (CBS/AP) — A Boston police officer says he's humbled by the attention he's received since photographs of him raising his arms in jubilation after the Boston Red Sox hit a grand slam against the Detroit Tigers appeared in newspapers and on the Internet.
The photos show Steve Horgan's arms raised in the same frame as the upturned legs of Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter as he tumbles into the Fenway Park bullpen, where Horgan was working a security detail.
David Ortiz's grand slam tied Sunday's game 5-5, and the Red Sox went on to a 6-5 victory.
Horgan says the attention has included reporters waiting outside his home and his cellphone ringing constantly.
This is Horgan's first year working the bullpen but he's worked details at the park in the past.
Horgan says he lifts his arms every time the Red Sox hit a homer, he's just never been captured in a photo.
"I thought Torii Hunter was going to catch it. I saw it land in the bullpen and because I'm a Sox fan, I just raised my arms." Horgan said.
When asked if he was looking at the then-flipped over Hunter or on the ball he said his eye was on the ball.
Hunter later said that Horgan could have spent less time celebrating and more time helping him up after he landed head-first.

"He's supposed to be protect and serve. This son of a gun's got his hands up! Help me, then cheer, fool!"
On Monday, Hunter tweeted not to take his comment after the game too seriously.
