Boston Police Officer Charged With Assaulting Woman

BOSTON (CBS) – A Boston Police officer appeared in court on Wednesday, charged with hitting a woman and throwing her to the ground.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Tewksbury Police arrested Patrick McCarthy, 35, following the incident that took place Tuesday just before 8:30 p.m.

McCarthy was arraigned in Lowell District Court on charges of assault and battery of a household member.

The Boston Police officer allegedly threw the victim's phone down a flight of stairs, threatened to throw her down the stairs, slapped her, and threw the victim to the ground.

McCarthy was released on personal recognizance on the condition that he follow a restraining order and have no contact with the alleged victim. He is also unable to possess firearms due to the arrest.
