Boston Police: 2nd Gypsy Cab Sex Assault Claim Was Erroneous
BOSTON (CBS) - A report of a sexual assault in the Brighton area that prompted a community alert has been deemed erroneous by Boston police.
On August 18, a woman reported that she had been picked up by a driver in Brighton while trying to hail a cab, taken to an area near Cambridge, and sexually assaulted.
"After a thorough investigation the Boston Police has determined that the August 18, 2013 report of an alleged sexual assault in the area of the Allston /Brighton line was erroneous. Evidence, witness interviews and statements, led detectives to believe the facts of the case did not support the allegation as reported," Boston police said on the department's website on Wednesday.
The alleged false report came shortly after news broke of a sexual assault involving a gypsy cab that began in South Boston and ended in Newton. No one has been arrested in that case.
