Boston Park Plaza Hotel Gets $95 Million Renovation

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Park Plaza Hotel is undergoing a massive $95 million renovation which includes elegant bathrooms, a chic new restaurant, an extraordinary ballroom and a grand staircase.

"The feel and vibe of the hotel will be very different and modern," Boston Park Plaza Hotel Managing Director June McDougall said.

From top to bottom, inside and out, the Park Plaza Hotel is being made brand new.

"The feel is that guests walk into a modern building with historical charm and see the beautiful detail and archways," McDougall said.

The 14 story hotel has been a gem in the city of Boston since 1927, but over the years things have deteriorated.

"This renovation was very much needed. The hotel had very little money spent on it," McDougall said.

Now the Park Plaza is getting a new heating and air conditioning system, along with new carpet, kitchens, gym and lobby. All 1,054 bedrooms will also be completely gutted and refurbished. The hotel also includes a new high end restaurant called Strip by Strega.

"We just wanted to bring a little bit of Las Vegas to Boston as far as steakhouse goes," owner Nick Varano said.

The restaurant includes exclusive VIP bars and private dining with walls that close.

"When you come in there's a special vibe and energy - almost like when you go on your first date," Varano said.

Workers are putting on the finishing touches to the restaurant now.

"This is an opportunity to bring this beautiful gem back to a beloved hotel it should be," McDougall said.
