Boston Mayor To Parents: Call Police If Your Child Owns A Gun
BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston Mayor Marty Walsh is calling on parents to step it up and help get guns out of the hands of their children.
He's making the request in the wake of the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Jonathan Dos Santos in Dorchester last week, allegedly by two other teenagers.
Walsh said the shooting shows that the city has to do a better job of getting guns off the street. He's asking parents to let police know if their kids own a gun.
"Parents are afraid," Walsh said at a Jamaica Plain event on Sunday. "They're concerned for their sons and daughters and they're afraid to maybe do something."
Walsh said parents don't want to go through losing their son or daughter, or have their child take someone else's life.
"I would suggest to them, if they know that their son or daughter has a gun, contact the Boston Police Department," he said. "We will pick it up. No questions asked."
