Boston Mayor-Elect Marty Walsh Preparing For Inauguration
BOSTON (CBS) -- Speaking to about 200 parishioners and dozens of clergy from across the city, Mayor-elect Marty Walsh said he was overwhelmed at the Interfaith Service held at the Old South Church near Copley Plaza on Sunday night.
"I am so grateful to be able to lead the people of Boston," Walsh said.
During the service, church leaders prayed over the mayor-elect for protection, leadership and wisdom.
"I am looking forward to working with clergy to do the job and with issues around poverty and violence," Walsh said.
All day on Sunday, it was a whirlwind of pre-inaugural events for Walsh.
In the morning, a brunch was held for seniors at Northeastern University. During the event, Walsh thanked Mayor Tom Menino for his service to the city of Boston. Walsh also mentioned the new team he is assembling, including naming City Councilor Felix Arroyo as Boston's next chief of Health and Human Services.
