Boston Mayor Calls Gaming Commission Decision 'Petty'
BOSTON (CBS) – Boston Mayor Marty Walsh on Friday called the Massachusetts Gaming Commission's decision to strip Boston of its surrounding community status for the planned Everett casino "petty," saying the commission makes up the rules as it goes.
Walsh's comments come as Wynn Resorts continues to push for the sole eastern Massachusetts casino license and build a casino in Everett. The city previously refused to enter arbitration over a mitigation agreement for the city.
"We came to an impasse. The process stated that we could either go to arbitration or we could go on to allow the gaming commission to come up with an agreement. We chose to let the Gaming Commission come up with an agreement. So this is the way the gaming commission works on behalf of the residents of Boston? We're not a surrounding community? That sounds petty to me," Walsh told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
"I guess were going to have to follow their rules."
