Boston Marathon Weather Forecast Update: No Major Worries
BOSTON (CBS) - The forecast for the Boston Marathon is not quite etched in stone yet.
It is five days away and there are some mixed signals regarding the presence or absence of a frontal boundary and the precise pattern of the jet stream and the surface pressure systems.

I usually place most of my reliance on one of a myriad of meteorological computer models and I see no reason to stray since it is the most successful route to follow.
At this point, I believe that we have no major worries.
The only thing that could happen is the appearance of some cloudiness and perhaps a brief shower in spots as a warm front shifts northeastward across the region.
I think that most of the area will remain dry and much of the cloudiness could shift north of the race route during the day resulting in brighter sunshine.
Assuming the warm front passes, there would be a robust warmup from the early morning middle 30's to lower 40's into the 60's to perhaps 70 by the end of the afternoon. With this happening, there would be a shift in the wind from the direction of southeast into the south-southwest which would be more of a cross wind component than a tail wind over much of the race course. The speed would freshen up to 10-25 mph.
Thankfully, there will be NO repeat of last year's heat at 87 degrees!
Leading up to the Boston Marathon, after rainy conditions Friday and Friday night, Saturday and Sunday will dry out and become partly sunny. There is a low risk of a shower on both weekend days with highs in the middle to upper 50s.
Monday Morning In Hopkinton:
Varying amounts of clouds and sunshine, a light south-southeasterly breeze, temperatures starting out at 7am in the middle 30's then rising to be around 50-55 by race time.
Daytime Along The Course:
Varying amounts of clouds and sunshine with a very slight risk of a sprinkle or shower, breeze picking up from the south at 8-18 mph, warming through the 50's to near 60 by midday then up to 65 by mid-afternoon.
Finish Line In Boston:
Sunshine, a brisk south-southwesterly wind of 10-25 mph with temperatures in the middle 60's at mid-afternoon and possibly upper 60's to near 70 by late afternoon.
