Boston Marathon Forecast: Cautiously Optimistic
BOSTON (CBS) - Cautiously optimistic. That is how I would describe our forecast for Marathon Monday at this point.
Check: Current Conditions | Interactive Radar | WBZ Weather Blog
With the big day still nearly a week away, there is a lot that can happen in the atmosphere between now and then.
However, at this point, it appears as though nearly ideal conditions may be present for runners.
Behind the cold front that will come through Wednesday morning, a large area of cold, Canadian high pressure will settle over New England.
This will make for a fairly easy, clean forecast for the end of this week. Lots of sunshine, but colder than normal temperatures.
That high pressure area will lose its grip late Friday and our atmosphere will get "messy" this weekend. There will be storminess off the East Coast and also some weak disturbances to our northwest coming out of Canada.
It does not appear as though anything major will be able to organize in our area, perhaps just some light rain showers on Saturday.
By Sunday and Monday another cool, Canadian high pressure system will likely press southward, exactly what the doctor ordered for those running 26.2 miles.
So, our current Marathon Monday forecast:
Sky Conditions: Partly cloudy.
Precipitation Chances: Lowering, less than 50-percent.
Temperatures: 40's at the start, near or slightly above 50 through the course.
Wind: Light, probably onshore close to Boston.
