Boston Marathon Bombing Jury Selection Likely Days From Conclusion
BOSTON (CBS) – The lengthy jury selection process in the Boston Marathon bombing trial is likely just days from ending, a court official said, adding that opening statements may be just over a week away.
A court official said on Friday night that jury selection "will likely be concluded early next week" in the capital trial of bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
The official said the process will then move forward to the defense and prosecution's opportunity for peremptory challenges, which allows attorneys to eliminate jurors from the final pool.
After that process is finished and the jury is seated, the court will hear any motions that need to be resolved before the trial begins.
Opening statements will likely begin the week of March 2, the court official said.
On Thursday, lawyers made their arguments in the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals after the defense made another plea for the trial to be moved.
The judge has not yet ruled on that appeal.
