Boston Looks To Close A 'Handful' Of Schools
BOSTON (CBS) -- Facing a significant budget deficit, the Boston School Department might close some schools.
Interim School Superintendent John McDonough has presented a budget proposal for next year to the school committee in which a handful of schools are slated for closure.
On WBZ NewsRadio 1030's NightSide With Dan Rea Wednesday night, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said a "handful" means about two or three right now.
"We have some of our schools that aren't full so we're looking at resources and where do we make the adjustment so we can improve education," Walsh said.
The targeted schools will likely be named in a couple of weeks, he said.
"Every move we make in the budget cuts or whatever we do in the school department, it's to get more money in the classrooms," Walsh said.
