Boston Firefighter Recruits Dig Out City Fire Hydrants
BOSTON (CBS) - With shovels in hand, 52 firefighter recruits were sent into the city Tuesday to clear fire hydrants now buried under drifts of snow over two-feet high in some neighborhoods.

The recruits were given maps as a way to locate the hundreds of hydrants buried under the snow from the blizzard.
"Time means everything when these guys show up at a fire, they don't want to be digging the hydrant out when they show up and waste valuable time," Fire Commissioner Roderick Fraser said.
"We need to put all our firefighters to work fighting the fire, looking for people that may be trapped inside."
