Boston Common named one of the best ice skating spots in North America, according to Yelp
BOSTON - Looking for the perfect winter activity in Boston? A new report finds that the city has one of the best spots in all of North America for ice skating.
The Boston Common Frog Pond was ranked 14th on Yelp's ranking of the top ice rinks in the United States and Canada. New York City is home to the No. 1 and No. 2 picks on the list, Bryant Park and Rockefeller Center.
Yelp reviewers say it's an ideal date-night destination, even in the cold.
"You must visit this place when the sun goes down, especially during the holiday season," one tourist wrote.
Ice skating on Boston Common
The skating rink opened in 1996 on the Frog Pond. It's a family friendly destination, but it's also hosted professional figure skating shows.
"Skating on the Boston Common Frog Pond is one of the quintessential and most popular things to do in Boston during winter," Doug Zeghibe, CEO of The Skating Club of Boston," said in a statement when the park opened for skating on Saturday.
Boston Frog Pond ice skating hours
The Frog Pond opens seven days a week at 10 a.m. for the 2024-2025 skating season. It closes at 3:45 p.m. on Mondays, but is open until 9 p.m. other nights and 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Admission to the rink is based on height. Skaters under 58 inches are free, anyone taller has to pay $10.
If you don't have ice skates, you can rent them. Adult pairs are $15, while kids are $10.
