Volunteers Needed To Remove Thousands Of Flags From Boston Common
BOSTON (CBS) – Volunteers are needed to help take down a patriotic display in the city on the day after Memorial Day.
Last week, more than 600 people planted 37,251 American flags on Boston Common – a Memorial Day tradition to remember the Massachusetts servicemen and women who died serving their country.
The dismantling of the flag garden will take place Tuesday afternoon because of the rainy Memorial Day forecast.
"It takes a lot less time to take them out than it takes to put them in," said Steve Kerrigan of the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund. "If we get volunteers who can take even part of their lunch hour. . . it shouldn't take very long to take them out and bundle them up and put them away."
Volunteers are asked to meet by the Soldiers and Sailors Monument near Charles and Beacon Street at 12:30 p.m.
