BC's Olivier Hanlan Named ACC Freshman Of The Year

BOSTON (CBS) - Boston College freshman Olivier Hanlan has been named the 2012-13 ACC Freshman of the Year.

Hanlan averaged 14.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists during his first year at the Heights, leading all ACC freshmen with 26 double-digit scoring games.

"It is a great honor for him and well deserved, mostly because he is someone who is putting a great amount of work in to improve both on and off the basketball court," head coach Steve Donahue said in a release. "It is also a credit to his teammates for trusting him with the ball quite a bit. Their unselfishness has made him better as well."

Hanlan earned 43 of the 77 votes with Duke's Rasheed Sulaimon finishing second with 15 votes and NC State's T.J. Warren third with 12.

Hanlan is the first conference rookie of the year winner for BC since Troy Bell won Big East Rookie of the Year honors in 1999-2000, and fifth Eagle to earn a conference rookie of the year award.

The Eagles will open the ACC Tournament on Thursday when they face Georgia Tech at noon at the Greensboro Coliseum.
