Boston College To Honor 9/11 Hero Saturday With Red Bandanna Uniforms

BOSTON (CBS) --  The Boston College football team will look a little different when they take the field Saturday night against powerhouse USC.

The Eagles will be wearing special helmets, gloves and cleats honoring alumnus Welles Crowther, a former BC lacrosse player who died during the September 11 terrorist attacks. Crowther was an equities trader in New York, and was killed during the attacks while saving several people from the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

The Eagles' gear on Saturday night will feature a red bandanna, a symbol synonymous with Crowther. His father gave him a red bandanna when he was younger, and he carried it with him wherever he went.

In addition to the players, the BC coaching staff will also wear red bandanna-inspired clothing, and 6,000 red bandannas will be given away to students.

The Crowther family will be in attendance for Saturday night's game at The Heights.
