Boston City Council Approves Police Officer Pay Hike
BOSTON (CBS) - Boston City Councilors have approved an arbitrator-awarded 25-percent pay hike for the city's police officers.
The increase includes money for benefits and bonuses.
Councilors approved the measure twelve-to-zero, saying police officers should be compensated for the risks they take to keep us safe.
Mayor-elect Marty Walsh did not vote on the pay raise. Walsh had said during the mayoral campaign that he opposed the pay increase.
The increase will cost taxpayers $87 million dollars over the next six years.
The city had offered a 19-percent pay increase, while the Boston Police Patrolmen's Association asked for 31-percent.
