Rask Out With 'General Soreness,' Bruins Recall Goalie Zane McIntyre
BOSTON (CBS) – The Bruins are making contingency plans as goalie Tuukka Rask battles what the team called "general soreness."
Boston called up goalie Zane McIntyre from Providence on an emergency basis.
Head coach Claude Julien confirmed to reporters that Rask will not play Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens at TD Garden.
McIntyre joined the big club in time for morning skate.
The 24-year-old McIntyre is 1-0-0 this season in three starts with the Providence Bruins. Though it's a small sample size, McIntyre leads the AHL in goals against average at 0.44 and save percentage at .977.
McIntyre was drafted in 2010 out of the University of North Dakota and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award during the 2014-15 season.
Rask sat out Bruins practice Friday. The team tweeted that Rask was taking a "maintenance day" as he recovers from soreness that he's felt since Boston's season opener in Columbus.
Rask told reporters there is nothing specifically bothering him, adding that "there's always something."
When asked if he was concerned about Rask's situation, Julien said no.
