Championship Banners Leaving TD Garden, Where Should They Go?
BOSTON (CBS) - All 23 banners that sit in the TD Garden rafters have to find a new home.
Temporarily that is.
With the NCAA Tournament coming to town, the TD Garden, Boston Bruins and Celtics announced Monday they will be relocating the 23 championship banners that now sit high above court side (of the ice), with 21 of them heading to the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Dorchester.
The two most recent championship banners, the Celtics' 2008 World Championship and Bruins' 2011 Stanley Cup, will be determined by fans over social media.
The TD Garden is hosting a social media fan campaign on its TD Garden Facebook page and Twitter account. Fans can make suggestions online on the Facebook page or tweet @TDGarden a location with a #bannerdayis hash tag. Fan suggestions can be submitted through March 21, and the Garden will select additional locations for the two banners to appear from March 21-23.

"The TD Garden is home to the most championship banners of any professional arena in the country and it's an unprecedented act to bring them all into the community and make them accessible to Bruins and Celtics fans." John Wentzell, President of TD Garden, said in a release. "Through our partnership with the teams and our social media channels, fans will have the opportunity to determine additional locations the banners will visit. Kicking off this campaign at The Salvation Army Kroc Center is important to us because it brings the mission of Garden Neighborhood Charities to life. We're proud to provide support to local organizations making a positive impact in our neighborhood of Greater Boston."
Suggestions for locations can be indoor or outdoor, public or private, within a 50 mile radius of Boston. They're pretty big too, so make sure they have plenty of space to hang. The Garden recommends a ceiling height of no less than 20' and room width of no less than 50'.
All banners will return to the TD Garden on March 24.
