Boston-Based Newtown Alumni Raise Money For New Children's Museum
NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBS) - Eight Newtown High School and Sandy Hook Elementary alumni based in the Boston area say the school shooting may have brought them all together but it's their love for their hometown that makes them stand strong today.
"We all grew up in Newtown and somehow we ended up in Boston and the shooting brought us together," Eddie Small said.
On Saturday night they hosted a fundraiser at Fenway Park to help raise money for a new children's museum. The Ever Wonder Children's Museum is slated to open next month.
The eight Boston people from Newtown helped raise more than $26,000 for the event.
"It's overwhelming to see so many people. It shows how much Boston cares and how much Boston wants to help," Peter Oggeri said.
Mayor Tom Menino says people should never forget what happened on that tragic day and now is the time to make a difference.
"What happened that day will leave an indelible mark on their lives so we have to educate them and let them know there is a different life out there and what we will do for the kids in Newton," Menino said.
