Boston Bars Weigh Showing Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight
BOSTON (CBS) - It's a beautiful Saturday afternoon on Boylston Street and it seems like everyone is out and about...and if you want to stop and whet your whistle at a Boston bar, chances are you'll be watching a sporting event.
Case in point: McGreevey's Irish Pub just up the street. Boston Red Sox versus New York Yankees at Fenway Park, the Kentucky Derby and Saturday night features the so-called "Fight of the Century" between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Boston bars had to decide whether to pay hefty right's fees to show the Mayweather-Pacquiao boxing match.
At home, it's $100 to watch the pay-per-view fight in high definition, but at McGreevey's you can watch it for $25.
The bar decided to pay about $8,000 in right's fees.
But it's a different story across town at The Fours on Canal Street.
They opted not to show the fight because they have a larger capacity and would have had to pay about $12,000 which would have meant a heft cover charge of $30-to-$40.
