Boomer Esiason On Toucher & Rich: Dolphins Are A Legit 3-0
BOSTON (CBS) - The New England Patriots improved to 3-0 this season with a 23-3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
WFAN's Boomer Esiason joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich on Monday, as he will every Monday this NFL season, and said the Patriots have taken care of business so far, but the schedule is about to get a little more challenging.
"The Patriots have done what they should have done the first three weeks of the season and beat sub-par opponents. Now it's going to get a little tougher," said Boomer. "This week they go on the road to Atlanta, who is a very good team. It's Sunday night, hopefully Gronk and Danny Amendola come back, and Tom (Brady) can feel a little more comfortable with the guys on the field. If they don't come back, it'll fall on the defense to slow Atlanta.
"The good thing about catching Atlanta now is they are not at 100 percent by any stretch of the imagination," he said. "They've lost a couple of guys on defense and Roddy White is still not 100 percent. This is where the schedule is about to get a little tougher for the Patriots with Atlanta and Cincinnati back to back."
The Falcons find themselves at 1-2 following Sunday's 27-23 loss to the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins are right there with the Patriots atop the AFC East at 3-0, but is it a legit 3-0?
"It's a real 3-0," said Esiason. "Their performance last week in Indianapolis, by virtue of what Indianapolis did yesterday, is pretty impressive… I think Miami is a legit 3-0. Ryan Tannehill seems to be getting better and better as the week's go by. Yesterday they had a good fourth quarter comeback against a decent Atlanta. They're a legitimate team.
"Their defense is stout and they have playmakers on offense with Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline," Boomer said of the Phins. "You have to take them seriously. They won't be the last surprising team this year, but as the season goes on they won't be surprising as many people late in the seasons they are right now."
Esiason also touched on the struggling NFC East, and how impressed he is with the young Indianapolis Colts:
