Boomer Esiason: I Would Have Ejected Odell Beckham Jr. For Launching At Josh Norman
BOSTON (CBS) -- Boomer Esiason of WFAN and The NFL Today joined Toucher & Rich on Monday morning to break down all the Week 15 action in the NFL.
The Patriots clinched a first-round bye thanks to their win over the Titans and a Steelers win over the Broncos, but the big story in the league centers around the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants. The Panthers improved to 14-0 on the season with a dramatic 38-35 win at MetLife Stadium, a game that featured some physical battles and dirty plays between Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and Panthers corner Josh Norman.
Neither liked each other heading into the game, and tempers were flaring throughout Sunday's contest. In the second half, Beckham launched himself at Norman and delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit.
Esiason said he would have ejected Beckham at that point.
"Every week we see players lose it on the field for whatever reason," said Boomer. "I don't know what these players are thinking; they tend to forget that there are player safety rules involved now… The moment I saw him launch himself the way he did and hit Norman the way he did on the side of the helmet is the moment I kick him off the field."
While that play sparked the Giants to come back from a 35-7 deficit, Boomer said he wouldn't blame fans if they think Beckham is a "disgusting mess and an embarrassment."
"This is not going to end well for either of these players or their teams," Boomer said of the situation. "It may get uglier as the week goes on."
Boomer also touched on the upcoming Patriots-Jets game on Sunday in New Jersey.
"I know one thing; the Jets defense isn't intimidated by the Patriots offense, and Ryan Fitzpatrick is in the midst of his best year ever," he said. "This is a huge game on Sunday, both teams will be up to the task and we should get a good one."
