Body Found After Blaze Hits Home In Brimfield
BRIMFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Fire investigators are seeking the cause of an overnight blaze that claimed the life of a man in Brimfield.
State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan and Brimfield Fire Chief Fred Piechota said the man, who was not immediately identified, was the only person in the single-family home on Hollow Street at the time of the fire. The house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after midnight on Wednesday.
Officials said part of the building collapsed during the fire and it took several hours for crews to locate and recover the body.
An autopsy is planned.
The fire marshal's office, the Hampden District Attorney and local authorities are investigating.
The house was one of only a few in the neighborhood that was spared when a tornado hit the town in June 2011.
