Bob Beers On Toucher & Rich: Bruins 'Playing With More Confidence'
The Bruins kicked off a five-game homestand with a 6-2 win over the New York Islanders. This win makes it three in a row for Boston and they are now one game under .500 (6-7-0).
Bob Beers, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Bruins color commentator, spoke with Toucher & Rich about the win, the improvement of this team, Tyler Seguin and Daniel Paille's injury.
"They put three real good games together. They're playing much better and they're playing with more confidence. It's kind of night and day from the way they were playing and the fact that they put a few together is a good sign for them. It's early yet, but obviously you don't want to dig yourself too big of a hole. There was some, I wouldn't say panic setting in, but obviously a lot of concern setting in when they got off to the start they did," Beers said.
It seems that the Tyler Seguin, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand line is generating a lot of scoring chances. After having a hat trick on Saturday in Toronto, Seguin recorded another goal Monday night at home.
"Seguin scored last night and he probably could have had 3 or 4. He had some great opportunities there in the second period too. That line has been exciting," Beers said.
Beers went on to discuss what Seguin could be capable of as he matures as a player, and how similar (or dissimilar) he is to Phil Kessel.
They also talked about the theory that the team plays different when Tuukka Rask is in net because he's starting games that the players don't really get pumped up for, like an afternoon Carolina game. Is there any truth to that theory?
"There was some truth to that, but he also played against Montreal, so there shouldn't have been any let down in that game either and the Bruins weren't playing well at that point in time," Beers said.
The guys then went on to discuss Daniel Paille's injury. The left winger took a slap shot to the face from Islanders defenseman Steve Staios in Monday's win. After a couple of minutes, Paille skated off the ice on his own power and went directly to the locker room, holding a towel over his face. He did not return. Listen to what Bob Beers had to say about putting yourself in front of shots.
