Blue Law Change? Liquor Stores Hope To Open Dec. 26
BOSTON (CBS) – A push is underway to allow Massachusetts liquor stores to sell alcohol on the Monday after Christmas.
Currently, the state's Blue Laws prevent businesses from selling booze on federal holidays.
Because Christmas is on a Sunday, Monday December 26 is one of those federal holidays, meaning Blue Laws kick in.
A few years ago, the law was changed to allow retail stores to open on the Monday after Christmas.
But liquor stores stayed closed.

Jon Hurst of the Mass. Retailers Association says a pending bill would allow package stores to open.
"We fixed the issue about allowing stores to be open… We fixed that many years ago," said Hurst. "But, we never fixed the problem about being able to sell alcohol. When Christmas falls on a Sunday, you can't sell it on Monday."
Hurst is hoping the measure is approved by the House and Senate next week, just in time for Christmas.
