Body Found In Billerica Being Investigated As Suspicious Death

BILLERICA (CBS) - The Middlesex District Attorney's office is investigating the discovery of the body of a man by the side of the road in Billerica. Investigators are calling the case suspicious.

The disturbing discovery was made around 5:30 a.m. at the top of Dean Street as residents awoke to police vehicles on busy Concord Road which was shut to traffic for a couple of hours.

When police knocked on Lorraine Smith's door the news was startling. "It was a policeman who told me a body was found at the top of the hill," she said.

The victim has been identified as a 30-year-old man from Lowell. His name has not been released.

District Attorney Marian Ryan is releasing few details, but neighbors indicate it was a crime that may not have happened nearby. "They said the body appeared to have been dumped there," said a resident who did not want to be identified.

The victim may have been strangled first say neighbors who were interviewed by police as they combed the area in search of information. The identity of the victim has not been released and it's unclear where the body came from adding to the mystery of the crime.

The investigation is ongoing but neighbors say they're hoping for some answers soon.
