Billerica Students 'Celling Out' To Help Single Mom Battling Cancer

BILLERICA (CBS) - Michele Morris knows she's in for the fight of her life. The 47-year-old single mother of three is battling breast cancer. She had to stop working last year and bills are piling up.

"Cancer picks anybody. You just can't give up. My biggest fear is losing my home," Morris said.

On top of all that she has her hands full with her three year old son William who has autism. But help is now on the way from total strangers who happen to be teenagers.

Billerica Memorial High School students Nick Fantasia and Cam Climo heard about their struggle and have a unique way to help them. They call it "celling out".

"What celling out means to me is making an impact in someone else's life who needs it more than we do," Nick said.

Those involved will have to turn off their cell phones for 30 days.

"We give it up for a whole month completely and lock it away. We don't touch it for those 30 days period," Climo said.

Instead they'll go door-to-door raising money for Dana Faber Cancer Institute and the Morris family.

"When I first heard this I cried for several days," Morris said.

On Wednesday February 4th more than 100 Billerica Memorial High School students will begin "celling out". Each one will turn in their cell phone to the Billerica Police Department for an entire month so they can focus more of their efforts on giving back.

"Everyone can make a difference in some way," Nick said.

Morris says she is humbled by their kindness. "They are high school kids and willing to do this for a total stranger," Morris said.

Checks can be made to "BMHS Celling Out" and mailed to Billerica Memorial High School, located at 35 River Street in Billerica, MA.
