Billerica Day Care Owner: 'God Was With Us' As Children Were Uninjured By SUV

BILLERICA (CBS) – The owner of a Billerica day care heavily damaged by an SUV says that "God was with us that day" as no one suffered serious injuries.

Maria Chirco is very thankful that none of the children or staff at her Billerica day care were seriously injured last Friday, when an SUV crashed through the front wall.

"I want to thank everyone that has reached out to me and A Brighter Rainbow. God was with us that day and nobody had serious injuries," said Chirco, the owner of Brighter Rainbow Learning Center.

Chirco took to Facebook to thank the community for the outpouring of public support and spoke on camera exclusively to WBZ-TV's David Robichaud.

A total of 35 children are enrolled in the Brighter Rainbow Learning Center in Billerica.

The building is undergoing repairs now. Chirco is hopeful that at least part of the building can be used next week so she can take care of some of the children.

Chirco said she was thrilled to watch WBZ-TV news Monday night and see that 2-year-old Nezharri Arrey-Lundy, the boy who was trapped under the car, is recovering.

"When I saw him on the news and I saw the big smile on his face, I was just glad he was OK," said Chirco.

Billerica Police are still investigating the crash, and no charges have been filed as of Tuesday night.
