Bill Would Rename Woburn Post Office For Slain Officer
WOBURN (AP) -- The U.S. post office in Woburn could soon bear the name of John Maguire, a veteran town police officer who was killed last year in the line of duty.
U.S. Rep. Edward Markey and Sens. Scott Brown and John Kerry have filed a bill that that would rename the Woburn post office as the "Officer John Maguire Post Office Building."
A 34-year veteran of the force, Maguire was shot and killed on Dec. 26 while responding to a robbery at a department store. The shooter, who also died in the exchange of gunfire, was identified as Dominic Cinelli, a career criminal who was paroled in 2008.
Markey called Maguire "a true hometown hero," and said renaming the post office would be a way of honoring his legacy.
