'Do You Know Who I Am?': Bill Murray, Carly Simon's Brother Get In Martha's Vineyard Scuffle
OAK BLUFFS (CBS) -- A Martha's Vineyard photographer says he got into a dispute with actor and comedian Bill Murray that turned physical.
A police report of the Wednesday night incident at Lola's in Oak Bluffs states officers interviewed a "visibly upset" Murray and photographer Peter Simon, the brother of singer Carly Simon.
The 71-year-old told WBZ-TV he was on assignment for local newspaper The Martha's Vineyard Times covering a band playing at the restaurant. After taking some pictures, Simon said he went into an alleyway to check that the photos were in focus and that's when "all hell broke loose."
"Someone from behind took me and shoved me up against the door and said 'I should expletive kick you out of here and do you bodily harm," Simon said. "I said, 'do you know who I am?' and he said, 'do you know who I am?'"
Simon says he went on to keep taking pictures of the crowd before realizing it was a celebrity who had angrily confronted him about his photography.
"I saw him dancing and I realized, oh God that's Bill Murray that did this to me," Simon said.
He said Murray later poured a glass of water on him and his camera, leading Simon to call police.
Murray told officers that Simon was taking pictures of him and harassing him, but Simon insists he was not there to photograph the actor.
The owner of Lola's is siding with Murray, a longtime customer, and told WBZ-TV that Simon did not have permission to be taking pictures at the restaurant.
Simon said he wants an apology from Murray.
"I really do feel badly that I upset him, I do," he said. "But I don't think he handled it right and there's no excuse for violence."
So far no charges have been filed.
