Bill Belichick Offers Sincere Thanks To Veterans After Patriots' Win
FOXBORO (CBS) -- The New England Patriots picked up a big divisional win on Sunday afternoon, improving to 6-3 on the year and increasing their lead in the AFC East.
After the game, though, the playoffs weren't the first thing on head coach Bill Belichick's mind.
Instead, Belichick stepped to the podium and offered a thank you for Veterans Day.
"I'll just start by saying for myself and on behalf of the team, how much appreciation we have today [and on] Veterans Day, how we honored those veterans before the game and how appreciative we are for all that our servicemen and all the armed forces do for us and give us the opportunity to go out there and do what we did today," said Belichick. "Without them, we all know that that really – it's a part of our way of life and they protect it for us, and we appreciate that."
Belichick grew up very much aware of the military, as his father was an assistant coach for the United States Naval Academy for 33 years.
