Bill Belichick: Don't Expect Dion Lewis, Tre' Jackson To Return To Practice This Week
BOSTON (CBS) -- It's officially Week 7 of the NFL season, which means players who were placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list prior to training camp are allowed to return.
For the Patriots, that list includes running back Dion Lewis and offensive lineman Tre' Jackson. But Bill Belichick said on Tuesday that neither player is expected to be ready to return this week.
The NFL's rules for players on PUP list state that players who begin the year on the reserve/PUP list can come off any time between Week 6 and Week 11 to begin practicing. After the player returns the practice, the team has an additional three weeks of leeway before activating the player on the roster. So there's quite a large window for the players to return, and injuries on the active roster could play as much of a role in dictating that activation as the health of the PUP players themselves.
Howe: Temper Expectations For Dion Lewis Upon Eventual Return To Patriots
The Patriots currently have LeGarrette Blount, James White, D.J. Foster and Brandon Bolden on the depth chart at running back, while also signing Tyler Gaffney to the practice squad this week.
