Police Find Driver After Fatal Bicycle Accident In Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- A woman riding a bike was struck and killed by a truck in the Back Bay Friday morning.

The cyclist was hit by the rear wheel of a flatbed truck as it turned off Massachusetts Avenue onto Beacon Street around 7:05 a.m.

The woman was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital where she died a short time later, according to police.

Her name has not been released, but WBZ has confirmed she is 38 years old.

The truck did not stop after the crash. Police say it's possible the driver did not know the cyclist was hit.

After asking for the public's help, Boston Police located the driver and the truck involved in the deadly collision. Officers said the driver was out-of-state and no charges were filed as of Friday night as they were still investigating.

Several cyclists gathered around an increasing number of flowers at the site of the accident on Mass Ave. and Beacon St. after the crash.

"It's easy to let dangers escape your mind and when something like this happens it just hits close to home," said cyclist Brad Pilled.

"It could have happened to any us," said Chris Allison.
