Between The Storms
An upper level low rotating around the Great Lakes Region will be the culprit for an unsettled weather pattern today, tomorrow, and possibly part of Sunday. This cut-off low will meander near the Great Lakes, eventually weaken into an open wave, and depart to our north later this weekend.
Today will start off with partly sunny skies while showers and storms begin to develop around midday. The best chance of afternoon storms will continue to be in the suburbs north and west of Boston. This is also the area with the highest risk of strong to severe storms. If you are vacationing on the Cape or plan to head to the beach, you should be fine for most of the day, but keep you eyes on radar as we transition into the evening hours. High temperatures will be in the lower to middle 80s...cooler near the coast with a south-southeast wind. Then, the showers, the storms, and the heavy downpours will spread eastward this evening and overnight tonight.
These heavy downpours will push northward early on Saturday morning. However, moisture will still be abundant as an occluded front slowly sweeps across New England from Saturday into Saturday night. Some models are even slowing its progression to the point that Sunday is beginning to look questionable. At the moment, Saturday is looking mainly cloudy with scattered showers and storms. Highs will be in the lower to middle 80s. Saturday night will be mainly cloudy as well with scattered showers. Sunday is showing promise with gradual improvement early in the day. Cape Cod and the Islands can expect a cloudy start along with a few lingering showers. The afternoon should be partly sunny with a slim chance of a spot storm (esp. north and west of Boston) as an upper level shortwave travels northeastward. Highs will be in the middle to upper 80s.
Make sure to check out your beach & boating forecast before heading out this weekend. Your best bet will be today and again during the latter half of the day on Sunday.
