Better Business Bureau: Watch Out For 'One Ring' Cell Phone Scam
BOSTON (CBS) - The Better Business Bureau wants you to be aware of something called the "one ring" scam.
A computer sends thousands of calls to random cell phone numbers, rings once, and then disconnects.
If you return the missed call, you could be charged $19.95 for an international call fee as well as an additional $9 per minute.
The best advice, if you miss a call and it's a number you don't recognize, ignore it.
According to the Better Business Bureau in Chicago, which released the information about the scam, victims claimed the calls came from the Caribbean Islands, including Grenada, Antigua, Jamaica and the British Virgin Islands.
If you think you were a victim, call your phone carrier.
