Great Flower Shops in Boston

One of easiest ways to make a room come alive, put a smile on a loved one's face, or commemorate a special event is with fresh flowers. Whether you like to pick, trim and style your own arrangements or would rather leave the design and delivery to the pros, here are some great local places to tiptoe through the tulips. - Paige Lewin

Brattle Square Florist

31 Brattle Street,
Cambridge, MA 02138
617-876-9839
Toll free 1-866-876-9839

If paradise was a flower shop, Brattle Square Florist would be it. One step inside the 100-year-old family-owned business in Harvard Square, and you know you've entered a special place. Brattle Square Florist feels more like a floral designer's workshop than a store, with barely enough space to walk among the hundreds of flower buckets and trimmed stems strewn on the floor. Since prices aren't marked, my favorite thing to do is give them a $20 bill and color palette and see what gorgeousness they pull together while I wait. Their delivered arrangements are textural, beautiful and reasonably-priced.

Winston Flowers

131 Newbury Street
Boston, MA 02116
800-457-4901
www.winstonflowers.com

When it comes to the Boston institution Winston Flowers, one word comes to mind – art. A Winston's shop is reminiscent of a gallery or high-end home furnishings store, with impeccable attention to detail and well-styled presentations. One of the things I like most about Winston's is their knack for mixing flowers and the containers in which they're arranged, often using more unique pieces than run-of-the-mill glass vessels. Locations include two in Boston, Concord, Hingham, Newton and Wellesley.

Russo's

560 Pleasant Street
Watertown, MA 02472
617-923-1500

Russo's has been around for 75+ years. The shop supports local growers and carries dozens of different flower varieties, perfect for any occasion.

Wilson Farm

10 Pleasant St
Lexington, MA 02421-6042
781-862-3900

As a time-crunched working mother, I like being able to get a couple of errands done simultaneously. Unfortunately many grocery store floral departments leave me wanting more. Not so with the selections at Russo's in Watertown and Wilson Farm in Lexington – each has a broad selection of fresh flowers and plants, along with an option to purchase arranged bouquets.

Derby Farm Flowers

454 Massachusetts Avenue
Arlington, MA 02474
781-643-0842
www.derby-farm-flowers.com

Although I haven't been to Derby Farm Flowers in Arlington, they come with high recommendations for their custom floral gift program (you choose the schedule and amount and Derby Farm delivers) and their floral arranging demonstrations. In addition, the shop has a great selection of home décor and other gift items, making it a great stop for a birthday or other special occasion.

Editor's Pick:

Pemberton Farms

2225 Massachusetts Ave
Cambridge, MA 02140
website

Mark Saidnawey from Pemberton Farms has lent his extensive knowledge to WBZ-TV's Gardening With Gutner segment on numerous occasions. Pemberton Farms is more of a gourmet food store, garden shop & gift basket shop. Either way, Pemberton Farms is BIG on local-grown and Mark, Tom, & Leo all grew up in the business, which is now 80 years old. If you go in with questions, they know what they are talking about and will likely have an answer for you.
