Woburn Woman Survives Maine Crash That Killed Four
BERWICK, Maine (AP) — Police said a crash that killed four people in Berwick on Saturday afternoon happened when a driver lost control following an improper pass and slid into the path of another car.
The crash happened Saturday afternoon in the small town near the border of Maine and New Hampshire. Police said the improper pass was made by a 31-year-old Buxton man, and the crash killed him along with a 29-year-old man and a seven-year-old boy who were passengers in his car.
The crash also killed a 73-year-old woman who was a passenger in the other vehicle, which was driven by a 46-year-old woman from Woburn, Massachusetts, police said. The driver of that vehicle was hospitalized with injuries that police said are not believed to be life threatening.
Three other people were hospitalized with injuries, which police also described as not believed to be life threatening. One of the people who was hospitalized was a 22-year-old female passenger of the Buxton man's car, while the other two were a 49-year-old male and a 16-year-old female who were in the other car.
Police didn't identify the victims on Sunday as they were still notifying families. The crash was the deadliest in Maine is more than three years.
The crash remains under investigation by the Berwick Police Department. A spokesman for Maine State Police said that agency is not involved in the case.
