Bernie Sanders Takes 14-Point Lead Over Hillary Clinton In NH Poll
CONCORD, N.H. (CBS) – A new poll shows Bernie Sanders surging to a big lead over Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire's presidential primary.
The Vermont senator holds a 53 percent to 39 percent advantage over the former secretary of state in a survey by Monmouth University.
Pollsters say Sanders now has the edge over Clinton in every major voting bloc.
"Sanders retains his sizable advantage among registered independents and new voters, men, and younger voters and has now overtaken Clinton among registered Democrats, women, and voters age 50 and older," a statement from the university said.
According to the poll, 50 percent of women voters support Sanders, compared to 44 percent for Clinton.
Clinton had led Sanders by three points in a Monmouth poll from November. Ex-Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley's support remains unchanged at 5 percent.
The poll found that 52 percent of New Hampshire voters have made up their minds, one month ahead of the primary.
There is some positive news for Clinton in the poll. It shows half of New Hampshire Democrats say former President Bill Clinton will help her campaign, while only 12 percent say her husband hurts her chances of being elected.
