Ben Affleck On Possible Senate Run: 'One Never Knows'
BOSTON (CBS) - Earlier this week, WBZ-TV's Jon Keller reported that one name he heard tossed around for a potential Senate run in Massachusetts is that of actor-director Ben Affleck.
Affleck, the pride of Cambridge, has been active in Democratic Party politics for more than a decade.
So would he run for John Kerry's Senate seat, if Kerry becomes Secretary of State?
Bob Schieffer, the host of CBS's "Face The Nation," asked him Wednesday in a taping for this Sunday's show in Washington.
"One never knows. I'm not one to get into conjecture," Affleck said.
"I do have a great fondness and admiration for the political process in this country. It's a big deal for me to come down here and be on your show that I've watched so much, but I'm not going to get into speculation about my political future."
Affleck, who is the founder of the Eastern Congo Initiative, appeared before the House Armed Services Committee Wednesday about improving conditions in Congo.
"I like to be involved. Right now, I'm really happy being involved from the outside in government, advocating for the Congolese, taking this movie that I've made 'Argo' and it's really become a springboard for dialogue about our relationship with Iran, which is, as Hillary Clinton said, the most pressing foreign policy issue today. So, I've got a lot on my plate."
Like a politician, Affleck appears to be keeping his options open.
"I think people in Massachusetts will be hearing more in the days to come," Schieffer said Thursday.
You can watch the entire interview with Ben Affleck on "Face The Nation," Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on WBZ-TV.
