Belmont Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (CBS/AP) - A soldier from Massachusetts has been killed by insurgents in Afghanistan.
The Defense Department says 24-year-old Sergeant Jonathan Curtis of Belmont was killed in Khandahar Monday along with a comrade from Illinois.
Insurgents attacked their unit with a makeshift bomb.
Curtis was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.
He joined the Army in September 2004 and arrived at Fort Campbell in June 2009.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Samantha, and daughter, Tessa-Marie, of Knoxville, Tenn.; father, Philip Curtis of Belmont; and mother, Pamela Curtis of Cambridge.
